Crazy #MLS trade rumor (second hand but a reliable source): Salou plus draft pick to #Revs for Shalrie Joseph. Yeah, hard to imagine.

hard to imagine
I can’t see this fitting into the salary cap in any way:
NE Joseph Shalrie M $ 450,000.00 $ 475,000.00
for
NY Salou Ibrahim F $ 264,000.00 $ 264,000.00
Not sure how they would make up $200,000, and wouldn’t a trade require Joseph to them be considered a DP, since he is over the current limit? Or are we in another era of “grandfathered” players? If you look at the current Salaries, it is a bit of mystery how they got TH14 in, but I am sure there is plenty of “allocation” dollars being used. I show without Henry 2.849,151.00 as the salaries for players listed on the roster (not sure if MLS is current on how is on the team or not). so with the $335,000 of TH14, that would put New York at 3,184,151. I doubt they could pick up the additional 200K.
Honestly I'm confused as well
Mainly with the signing of Rafael Marquez getting announced this week. His rumored salary is 3-4 years worth $2.8million. The team needs to drop another player to make room. Woly was offered a coaching job. My guess is Petke is next to get that same deal.

I think the salary cap is more of a "guideline" than a requirement
I don’t think the Revs would trade Joseph, even if you threw in Henry and Angel in return. Definitely not for a reserve forward.
Compare New England’s record with Joseph to their record without him and you’ll see why.

The only reason I even bothered reporting this
Is because the Revs are in desperate need of some scoring and Salou would be a decent fit.

DP's 1/2 salary
I thought the salaries for Henry and possibly Marquez are only 1/2 $167,500 for the year since they are coming in half way through the season.
Correct
Henry will only count for $167,500 against NY’s 2010 cap.

I'm concerned about next year
You’ll have 3 DPs on the books. But Denz, myself, and Jeremiah have been bothering MLSinsider on twitter for an answer regarding the salary cap. Would the Red Bulls pay a luxury tax in the form of allocation money split between everyone else? Or to the league? We should have more of an answer after the all-star break. I’m sure there will be a bunch of different perspectives from the three of us.

Aside from salary would be great move
I don’t see his personal problems as being that big of a deal… how bad can a “marijuana addiction” be after all? Reminds me of Bob Sagat’s line in Half Baked:

trade richards and a draft pick
richards had a good showing this past week, his stock is as high as its ever probably gonna reach. i think he takes away more chances than he actually gives us. send him with a draft pick and even salou if needed to get under the cap for joseph. and my friends well be the favorites to win the cup. and if we dont itll be a shame. we have a surpluss in the forward group with a lot of guys on the bench and the colombian prospect in the system.
