Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

When Erik Soler went on Extra Time Radio he spoke about designated players in very broad terms - basically, nothing we didn't know already - but the New York Post is reporting that two sources have said the 25-year-old Stephen Ireland making the jump to the Red Bulls is unlikely.

Sources said Raul, who plays for Shalke 04, is still a possibility.

Stephen Ireland Unlikely

Saw this earlier somewhere else…and that just sucks. Don’t get me wrong, Raul is a quality player, however, if the MLS is to take the next step into becoming a world recognized league, the need to stop bringing in guys at the end of their careers, who only have a year or two left to offer, and start bringing in young guys (like Ireland). We need to stop being a league full of young American players looking to make the move overseas, and start transitioning into a league where those guys want to stay here and play, as well as attracting younger talent from Europe.
