The Red Bulls had their first training session of the year today, and it looks like everyone made it.
So far, the only rostered player not in camp is Connor Lade, who's spending time with the national team. Of yesterday's Supplemental Draft picks, only Monmouth University product Ryan Clark and former Boston University Terrier Michael Bustamante have made their way to camp. More players will join the team in the next few days, according to the team's website. Neither Supplemental Draft pick, or SuperDraft pick Ian Christianson, are under contract.
Also in Florida, an academy player in Ethan Decker and a few trialists. The guest players include Spanish attacking midfielder Ruben Izqueirdo currently with Charlton Athletic, Marius Obekop (apparently an 18-year-old Cameroonian midfielder), former Red Bull Tyler Ruthven, past trialist and Charleston Battery midfielder Nicki Patterson and defender Toni Stahl, who has the dubious distinction of earning the Philadelphia Union's first ever red card, in what happens to be his only MLS appearance.
(To be fair to Stahl, he was the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers captain last season and is a two-time NASL Best XI selection.)
Not in camp is Wilman Conde, who had his contract terminated by the team this afternoon.
With yesterday's supplemental draft picks and the confirmed trialists, it seems there's going to be a lot of competition for midfield slots, some of which could be rotation options. As we've opined about before, the Red Bulls are thin in the middle of the park.
Thoughts? Any scouting reports on the trialists?
