Mike Petke: Coach of the Year Finalst

Petke joins two others as finalists for Coach of the Year.

USA TODAY Sports

You'd think Mike Petke would be a shoe-in for Coach of the Year, after taking over a team he didn't build late in camp and leading them to the Supporters' Shield, with tremendous pressure to win.

It looks like the MLS punditry is content to just hand the trophy to the Portland Timbers' Caleb Porter without much discussion, so that might not be the case, but at least Petke is in the running.

Today, the league released finalists for it's end-of-season awards and Petke is the only Red Bull included on the list.

Tim Cahill, who some thought had a case for MVP, was left off the list in favor of Montreal's Marco Di Vaio, Chicago's Mike Magee and the Galaxy's Robbie Keane. Jamison Olave, thought to be a Defender of the Year candidate, didn't make it either. Sporting Kansas City's Matt Besler, the Galaxy's Omar Gonzales and the Revolution's Jose Goncalves did.
