The MetroBulls haven't beaten the New England Revolution away since June 29, 2002. Since that day, a 2-0 win, the team has posted an astoundingly atrocious 0-13-6 record. Yeah, small town Foxborough, Mass. hasn't been kind to the New York side. But just how long ago was their last win? Yeah ok,, nearly 11 years ago. But the world was quite a bit different place then than it is now.
To start, the team was the MetroStars. And this was their logo...
That was three logos and a name change ago. In 2002 they wore these jerseys away...
And the Revs wore these home jerseys...
The game was played here, and it just opened. It was called CMGI Field...
Tim Howard wore the captain's armband for the MetroStars that day...
In front of him? This guy. You might recognize him...
And he (Clint Mathis) assisted on both goals.
For the Revs, Jay Heaps played. He's now their coach.
Taylor Twellman played in that game, too. In the Revs' match report, they call him a "first year sensation."
There was another soccer game that day, too. It was South Korea against Turkey for third place in the 2002 World Cup. Turkey would win, 3-2. And, yeah, the best picture I could find was the Turkish team on a stamp from Azerbaijan.
And the next day, Brazil would beat Germany to win the tournament...
But enough with the soccer. In June 2002? Gas was $1.40 a gallon...
If that's not a bit depressing, I'm not sure what is.
