With 10 days since their last game and 11 days until their next one, not much is known about how the Red Bulls will approach Wednesday's Open Cup game against the New England Revolution.
And even after three reports from Big Apple Soccer, we still don't know much.
Basically:
- Digao probably won't play Wednesday, but he will over the weekend against the USL Wilmington Hammerheads.
- Neither Thierry Henry nor Jamison Olave will be available, due to the turf field. Yes, the game is being played at Harvard University's Soldiers Field, but no, the surface doesn't change from Gillette Stadium.
- Both Peguy Luyindula and Fabian Espindola will be available.
But we really don't know much else. Head Coach Mike Petke suggests they might trot out a new formation, so we could be looking at the return of the 4-3-3. We're also not sure which starters will be in the starting XI and who will be reserves. Or who will get the start up top: Luyindula or Espindola. Or both.
Petke seems to be taking the competition seriously, and he certainly has the luxury with this long break between league games, so one would expect a strong line-up. But the absence of Henry and Olave will hurt. And a new formation could make things harder on the team. Plus, we all know how tough New England away has been for the Red Bulls as of the last decade...
