It's Not Hard To See Why the Red Bulls are Trophy-less

The man behind Empire of Soccer, Dave Martinez, sat down with Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh for an update seven months into his tenure with the Red Bulls. It's a good post. It sheds some light on the direction the nearly 70-year-old soccer lifer is trying to take the team.

But at the same time, it's not hard to see why the team was so dysfunctional for so long.

"That was my first priority; organizing staff, create staff and then try to get them on the same wavelength," he recounted. "We did simple things like job descriptions for everybody. They never had that before! We did all that."

So, yeah, directionless employees.

What else? They were deficient at scouting opponents -- it seems now they go the extra mile, scouting Reading United twice. The medical staff has taken a step forward, too, though, we already kind of knew that.

No job descriptions, not "properly" scouting opponents, an iffy medical staff. It's really not hard to see why the team just couldn't put it all together despite all the money sunk into the team.
