If we're honest, Yordany Alvarez's tackle on Tim Cahill early in Saturday's crazy, crazy game against Real Salt Lake warranted a red. Instead, Alvarez got a yellow and Cahill limped off the field, proceeding to look like a boxer post-bout, after the whistle blew.
Post-tackle, Cahill would go on to score the first of the Red Bulls' goals while playing 85 minutes. The vast majority of which, we found out today, were played with a torn PCL ligament in his knee.
As per the team, Cahill is set to miss between three and four weeks with the knock, ruling him out of Saturday's match-up against Sporting Kansas City and subsequent matches against the Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union and possibly Chivas USA. Head Coach Mike Petke called the tackle "reckless and careless" but not intentional.
Bad news for the Red Bulls, obviously. Since scoring his first goal of 2013, the Australian caught fire, scoring six goals in 11 games, good for second on the team to Thierry Henry's seven.
