There were a few surprises in Ange Postecoglou's latest Socceroos squad, but Tim Cahill wasn't one of them. As expected, he's got the call to join the Australia national team for its last scheduled friendly before January's Asian Cup - against Japan on November 18.
The game will be played in Osaka, and is the final opportunity for the Socceroos to build some positive momentum for next year's Asian Cup. Australia has played 10 international matches in 2014: winning just one and losing seven.
Cahill is the second New York Red Bull to get the call from his national team for the November international window. Ambroise Oyongo is in Cameroon's squad for its Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches on 11/15 and 11/19.
This week, the Confederation of African Football announced it would not postpone its showcase tournament - scheduled to run from January 17 to February 8. The host nation, Morocco, had requested the ACN be rescheduled due to continuing concerns about the containment of the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa.
CAF has given Morocco until November 8 to decide it if will host the competition as planned or withdraw.
For RBNY, the November internationals are not expected to have great impact. If the team is still involved in the MLS playoffs after its 11/8 Eastern Conference semifinal second leg against D.C. United, the next round of post-season games does not start until 11/23.
