Once a Metro was created in 2010 to bring coverage of the New York Red Bulls to SB Nation. The site has gone through a lot of changes in the years since its creation in an effort to bring Red Bulls fans the best coverage possible, and this year is no different. For the past year and a half, this site has featured daily coverage by Matt Coyne, Tim Dean, Austin Fido, and myself. While we have provided good coverage of the team over that time, we know we can do better.
To that end, there will be some changes coming in the next few months. We are going to be expand our coverage of the Red Bulls to include the academy and reserve teams. This will include coverage of the reported Red Bull USL Pro team or of the USL Pro team the Red Bulls will name as their affiliate. We’re also going to resume coverage of Sky Blue FC, the National Women’s Soccer League team that plays in nearby Piscatawy, NJ with the same level of coverage we have brought to the Red Bulls.
Most importantly though, is the emphasis of the coverage. All of us who cover the Red Bulls here at Once a Metro are, first and foremost, fans of the Red Bulls. We wouldn’t be here if not for the love we have of the team. We are going to continue to strive to be the best fan-centric site to cover the Red Bulls. We want to bring nothing but the best for our readers as they deserve nothing less.
To accomplish our goals and to help bring better and broader coverage, I would like to take this time to introduce some new writers to the Once a Metro staff. First up is Lester Townsend. Lester has written Fanposts in the past discussing the Red Bulls younger players. He has already published two stories in the last two weeks giving us a rundown of Sean Davis and looking at Red Bull academy players in the College Cup. I would also at this time like to welcome Frank J. Maduri. Like Lester, Frank has written Fanposts for us on topics such as the Sleep Out and impact of the World Cup. We’re very happy to have both of these authors join us and help to cover the team we all love.
On a sad note, we have to announce the departure of Tim Dean. Tim has been a valuable member of Once a Metro in previewing every match and providing his opinion of the team. Unfortunately for us, he was presented with some opportunities outside of Once a Metro that he just couldn’t pass up. All of us here wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
We’ll be announcing more changes in the coming weeks as we plan to bring on even more writers to help us provide a wider array and better quality coverage of both the Red Bulls and Sky Blue FC. If you are interested in being one of them, keep an eye on the SB Nation Blog Openings page. If you don’t see anything, that doesn’t mean you can’t contribute! Every member of our community is more than welcome to submit Fanposts and Fanshots talking about whatever they want, and you never know, we may promote your posts so they can be better seen.
