He did it! YOU did it, voting reader!
Luis Robles's BIG stop(s) against Seattle picked up 32.05% of votes cast in the final round of MLS's 2014 Save of the Year competition, and that was good enough for first place!
This is the first time in the brief history of the competition that it has been won by a New York Red Bull. And the first time Luis Robles has won the award.
There is apparently some benefit to making the second-most saves in MLS this season: Robles only had one (well...it's really two) nomination for Save of the Year, but he had a more extensive portfolio of work to choose from than most 'keepers in the league.
We can all hope he doesn't have quite so much to do next season. RBNY's defense has had a habit of leaving more than the usual amount of work for its 'keeper over the last two years. This is good for Robles's highlight reel, but perhaps not so great for his blood pressure (though he seems a relaxed character).
All that is for the future. Right now: well done, Luis!
