Every game during the 2014 New York Red Bulls season will be predicted by Jason Iapicco, Matt Coyne, Tim Dean, Austin Fido, and Red Bull Rant co-hosts Patrick MacDonald, and Truman. We'll be tracking how well we do, awarding points for each prediction. For each game, 1 point will be awarded for correctly predicting a Win, Loss, or Draw; and 2 points for a correct score prediction. Let's take a look at predictions for the upcoming game.
Date: April 12, 2014
Opponent: D.C. United
Stadium: RFK Stadium
TV: MSG+
Kick Off: 7:00 pm Eastern
Matt Coyne: 2-1 Win
They have to win eventually...r-right?
I'm not particularly impressed by D.C., even after their "great" off-season and coming first win of the season against New England. I think with a (close to) full strength line-up the Red Bulls should be able to get it done down at RFK. Call it a hunch, but I think they'll end their draw streak Saturday.
Tim Dean: 3-1 Win
A little healthier, a little more motivated, and a little more confident, the Red Bulls are walking into RFK at the right time. With most of their big players back in the fold, New York should be able to leave D.C. with the full three points.
Austin Fido: 2-0 Loss
I see the same incremental improvements in the team that everyone else does. Match by match, since the abject opening-day humbling at the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Red Bulls are getting better; but it looks like we may be getting another patched up side this week. Yes, Thierry Henry and Jamison Olave are back, but there seems to be a lot of early season ache and pain in the squad at the moment. That plus the effects of four weeks of trotting out the same old "we played well, just need to improve XYZ" line combines for a little complacency against a D.C. team which just wants to win.
