RBNY Power Rankings - Week 10

After a 5-4 loss to the Chicago Fire, who moves up and down in the power rankings.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Each week, myself, Matt Coyne, Tim Dean, Austin Fido, and you the fans will be able to rank the New York Red Bullssquad from best to worst. As you can see by the table below, the math for this is pretty simple. The four Once a Metro writers get a vote, and we add a fifth collective fan vote. We take a straight average of the votes, and rank the players accordingly. The Once a Metro staff also adds comments about each player, and I'll give some thoughts on how things shook out later in the article.

For the table, here's the initials you need to know:

  • JI - Jason Iapicco
  • TD - Tim dean
  • MC - Matt Coyne
  • AF - Austin Fido

Fan Vote from Week 10 can be found here.

Rankings

Rank Player Change Jason Tim Matt Austin Fans Average Comments
1 Bradley Wright-Phillips 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 JI - Tim Cahill led the team with 12 goals in all competitions in 2013. BWP is already at 9.
2 Thierry Henry 2 2 4 2 2 2 2.4 AF - The captain played very well this week, and was the tip of Sean Johnson's fingers away from saving the game.
3 Lloyd Sam -1 3 3 3 4 6 3.8 JI - This guy just keeps running. Hopefully his batteries don't die on us.
4 Luis Robles -3 4 2 4 3 7 4 MC - Everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office here and there, but against the Fire, Robles' was awful.
5 Peguy Luyindula 3 6 6 5 5 9 6.2 AF - The thesis that the team plays better when he is alongside Dax in midfield instead of Cahill is about to get well tested.
6 Eric Alexander 1 5 7 7 9 4 6.4 AF - Given his talent for filling in wherever Petke perceives a weak point in the lineup, maybe he should try his hand at playing in the back four?
7 Roy Miller -1 9 5 8 8 3 6.6 MC - When Miller leaves to join Costa Rica, the Red Bulls are going to feel it.
8 Jamison Olave -3 10 9 6 6 8 7.8 MC - The team's terrible defensive showing over the weekend isn't helping Olave's cause here, even if he is the Red Bulls' studiest defender.
9 Dax McCarty 2 7 8 9 7 12 8.6 TD - Sexuality. What more can be said?
10 Tim Cahill 2 8 10 10 11 5 8.8 JI - Against FC Dallas, he looked rusty, not so much against Chicago.
11 Jonny Steele 1 13 13 12 12 11 12.2 TD - Jonny Steele entered the last match and immediately contributed to a goal...then he sent about 15 errant crosses into the cheap seats.
12 Armando -2 11 11 13 10 19 12.8 TD - After a rough first few weeks, Armando seems to have settled in. His annoying habit of back passing is getting tiresome.
13 Kosuke Kimura -4 12 12 11 13 20 13.6 AF - His stock is falling after a couple of poor games over the last three weeks. He may have opened the door for Eckersley's return.
14 Ibrahim Sekagya -2 14 14 14 14 14 14 JI - Probably gained the most during the Chicago game since he wasn't on the field while the defense got burned.
15 Ruben Bover 0 15 17 15 15 10 14.4 TD - I get the feeling it's only a matter of time before Petke starts using Bover as a late game impact sub. It's about time he got his chance.
16 Bobby Convey 1 19 15 16 17 13 16 AF - Miller's out and the defense needs a shake up anyway. As the presumptive stand-in left back, it is Convey's time to shine.
16 Connor Lade 1 16 16 17 16 15 16 MC - Lade's lack of playing time is keeping him toward the bottom, simple as that.
18 Andre Akpan 1 17 20 18 19 16 18 MC - Is no performance better than a bad one? Seeing some of the other guys drop and that might be the case...
19 Matt Miazga -3 18 19 19 18 17 18.2 TD - The young centerback hasn't had enough time on the pitch to adequately grade.
20 Richard Eckersley 0 20 18 20 20 18 19.2 JI - It'll be interesting to see if the door for Eckersley is opened after Kimura's poor game against Chicago.
