Steele gets Northern Ireland call ahead of Uruguay, Chile friendlies

Steele is back in Martin O'Neil's plans.

Despite playing just 484 minutes in 11 games this season, Jonny Steele is still in Northern Ireland's plans.

The Irish Football Association today released the names of the 22 players called up ahead of friendlies against Uruguay May 30 and Chile June 4, and Steele's name is on it, his second call up in six months.

Steele earned his first call up in November, a well-earned reward for a long, winding road from the doldrums of the American minor leagues to its' top flight. He played 23 minutes in the 1-0 loss.

The squad is, seemingly, an experimental one, with Northern Ireland boss Martin O'Neil leaving out several first team regulars, according to the BBC, a possible look ahead to Euro 2016 qualifying, which starts in September.

As for the Red Bulls, they'll likely miss him for the May 27 match-up away to Sporting Kansas City and the June 8 match in Foxborough, against the New England Revolution.
