It wasn't quite as bad as it could be, but it's not ideal, either.
CONCACAF drew the groups for the 2014-15 iteration of its Champions League tonight, and the Red Bulls will face a familiar opponent in either Toronto FC or the Montreal Impact, depending on who wins the Canadian Championship, and Salvadorian club C.D. FAS.
It wasn't the ideal draw we were hoping for -- that'd be Honduran club Isidro Metapan and Puerto Rico Bayamon FC -- but it's quite a bit better than it could have been.
With that said, the biggest test in the group stage will be the Canadian champion. And with Toronto FC's firepower, you'd expect one to hope for the bottom feeding Montreal Impact to pull off an upset. But TFC hasn't been great in this tournament, only making it out of the group stage once in four tries, while l'Impact have a history of giant killing in the event, making it to the knockout stages as a USL team in the 2008-09 tournament.
The rest of the draw looks like this:
Group 1

Real CD Espana
CSD Municipal
Group 2
