The New York Red Bulls, with the 39th pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft have selected forward Stefano Bonomo of the University of California. When talking to new head coach Jesse Marsch, this is what he had to say about the selection.

...I think Stefano can tilt out wide in different moments too. So, we felt like he was clearly the best player still available, so we felt like that was the kind of guy we wanted to go with.

Stefano was named to the All Pac-12 First Team in 2014, leading the Cal Bears with 12 goals in 17 matches. In the NCAA tournament, he bagged a game winning goal against SIUE in the 2nd round en route to a Sweet 16 appearance.

When asked why the Red Bulls didn't look to address defensive needs in the second round, Marsch had this to say.

Well, we have some flexibility within the roster on the defensive side of things. We're out there looking for other centers back that are a little more established to come into the group. So, still we felt like we needed some cover in a forward position...

The Red Bulls still have two rounds in the SuperDraft as it continues via conference call on Tuesday, January 20th.
