After starting the CONCACAF U-20 Championships with 1 point from two matches, the United States has now gone four straight games without giving up a goal to wrap up a spot in the U-20 World Cup in New Zeland. The US handled El Salvador 2-0, but it wasn't easy. The US didn't score until after the 30th minute despite numerous chances early, especially in the first minute with a ball across the face of goal.
Matt Miazga and his back line mates are to be commended, as they didn't allow a shot on goal until a penalty kick in the 51st minute after an apparent handball. US Goal keeper Steffan came up with a big stop on the ensuing kick and kept the game's momentum from changing.
An insurance goal was added late in the game and the US were content to sit back for the most part, absorbing pressure; bending, but never breaking. Miazga had a good game, as El Salvador didn't get much through up the middle.
Next up for the US U-20 team is the U-20 World Cup, this summer, in New Zeland.
