Bulls Abroad: How to watch Cameroon vs. Ivory Coast in Africa Cup of Nations 2015

Ambroise Oyongo is now a former Red Bull, but what harm in a little look at him play for old times' sake?

Say what? Traded you say? I see...Well, Ambroise Oyongo may no longer be a member of the New York Red Bulls, but we haven't seen him in a Montreal Impact shirt yet - so we'll fly his flag on this site a little longer. Perhaps not too much longer, because his Indomitable Lions need a big day in AFCON 2015 if they are to play any more soccer in this tournament after January 28.

The last time Cameroon and Ivory Coast met in a competitive game it was the final round of the qualifying matches for this tournament. The teams played out a 0-0 draw, eventually abandoning all pretense that they were interested in anything other than a mutually convenient point (which secured Ivory Coast's place at AFCON 2015 and guaranteed Cameroon top spot in the group).

Funny how things work out: this time, neither will have the luxury of taking it easy. Group D is all square with one game left to play: all four teams have identical records; if it stays this way, they will need to be separated by the drawing of lots. Cameroon needs a win, so too does Ivory Coast. Otherwise, their respective fates in this tournament are out of their control.

No such drama in the other three groups, where the question of who is in the knockout rounds is already settled: Congo won Group A, which means it will play Group B runner-up Democratic Republic of Congo on January 31; Group B winner, Tunisia, takes on Group A runner-up and host nation, Equatorial Guinea, on the same day. Following those quarterfinals, on February 1, we'll see the two Group C qualifiers - Ghana and Algeria - run up against whichever teams emerge from Group D.
