Sacha Kljestan was instrumental in the New York Red Bulls' Shield-clinching win over Chicago Fire. He took the penalty that stood up as the match-winner. Prior to that, he took the corner that Sal Zizzo flicked on for Bradley Wright-Phillips to give RBNY the lead and the necessary proof that this time the team did not have to leave Chicago empty-handed.
Kljestan was credited with a secondary assist on BWP"s goal, giving him a total of 15 in all competitions for the season to date. He is now joint-third - tied with Eduardo Hurtado - on RBNY's all-competitions, single-season assists list.
Fourteen of those assists have come in the now-concluded MLS regular season. So Sacha cannot add to his tally of league assists this year, but his 14th tied him with Thierry Henry and Hurtado for the club's all-time, single-season record for assists in the regular season.
And 14 is a new career best for assists in one MLS regular season for Kljestan, whose previous career high was 13 in 2007 for Chivas USA.
Congrats, Sacha!
