I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat. I'm guessing I won't even be the only one talking about this. While the United States are set to start their road to the 2018 World Cup, I don't care.
Sure, I'll probably watch the games. Aside from MLS & other leagues being off this week, I am kind of too into this thing called soccer not to watch. But why should I care? The US' two matches coming up are against St. Vincent & the Grenadines (11/13) and Trinidad and Tobago (11/17).
The first is such a minnow, even in CONCACAF, that SB Nation doesn't even have a team specific page to link to. The US should win both, and the only shock will be if they draw or lose either game. Yes, Matt Miazga is with the team, but we know that's just so they can tie him to the US for the future.
After the frankly terribly embarrassing Gold Cup, and playoff against Mexico (where they had no reason to be in Extra Time), how can I be expected to get up for these? I'll watch out of obligation, but I honestly don't care right now. Jurgen Klinsmann and company have not given me a reason to. I'd rather this international break be over so we can get back to the MLS Playoffs, which at least have been a compelling show so far.
Let me know when the US makes the Hex, then maybe I'll care.
