Sky Blue FC Offseason: Report Cameron starts in goal in Japanese debut

As the rest of the National Women's Soccer League clubs continue to make trades and other moves to bolster their roster, Sky Blue FC is doing all their work overseas.

Goalkeeper and club Most Valuable Player Brittany Cameron is the latest Sky Blue FC player to hit the pitch in the off-season.

Cameron played 77 minutes Sunday in her debut with  Japan's Vedalta Sendai on Sunday, starting the game in net against Daito Bunka University. She allowed one goal in 4-1 victory. This is the second season that Cameron has played on loan with the Japanese club, although a hand injury caused a delay in her debut for the team.

"We are delighted to see Brittany playing again with Vedalta Sendai after having to undergo a long layoff," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC assistant coach. "She has really enjoyed her time in Japan over these past two years, and it has been very beneficial to the development of her game. We wish all the best to Brittany and her club over the remainder of the J-League season."

In other action, Nadia Nadim and Danish side Fortuna Hjørring fell to Brescia Calcio Femminile in a two-game aggregate score of 3-1 in the UEFA Women's Champions League Round of 16. Fortuna fell 1-0 in the opener of the two-game set and then again by a tally of 2-1 in the last installment this past Wednesday. In that second match, Nadim scored for the lone goal.

Fortuna returned to Elitedivisionen play over the weekend, defeating Odense Boldklub by a score of 2-1. The result increased their divisional record to 9-0-3 (30 points), which places them atop the Elitedivisionen table alongside Brøndby.

Sky Blue FC midfielder Sarah Killion and Adelaide United (2-1-2, 8 points) played the Newcastle Jets to a 1-1 draw in Australia W-League action over the weekend, with Killion making the start and playing the full 90 minutes. With the result, Adelaide is now sitting alone in second place within the W-League standings, trailing only unbeaten Melbourne City FC (6-0-0, 18 points).

Perth Glory was off this past weekend. Sky Blue FC teammates Caitlin Foord and Nikki Stanton are each on the active Perth roster, while forward Sam Kerr saw her season end last weekend due to a foot injury. Perth currently owns a record of 2-2-1 (7 points) and is knotted up in a three-way tie for third place on the W-League table.
