Former New York Red Bulls Academy player Ismar Tandir has reportedly joined Real Zaragoza, currently fifth in Spain's Segunda Division. The primary source of the report is the player's own Twitter account, where he now describes himself as a Zaragoza player and has announced his presence at the club:
Happy to be here! Real Zaragoza of Spain! #2016 ⚽️ https://t.co/Gz2lLwCW7L
— Ismar Tandir (Izzy) (@Itandir) November 30, 2015
Tandir won't turn 21 until next year. Since leaving the Red Bulls' academy in 2012, he has spent time in France (with FC Sochaux), California (with Sacramento Republic) and Iceland (with Breidablik).
Once A Metro's Aaron Bauer caught up with Tandir this summer, when he was settling into his new club in Iceland.
Although statistical archives suggest Tandir didn't get a lot of playing time with Breidablik, a move to a team with a reasonable shot of winning promotion to Spain's top flight is an encouraging sign for a young player still seeking a club from which to launch his career.
Congratulations, Izzy! (Can we call you Izzy?) All the best in Spain.
