2015 OaM Awards: New York Red Bulls Most Valuable Player

Who was the most important player to you in 2015?

William Hauser-USA TODAY Sports

Dax McCarty, Sacha Kljestan, Bradley Wright-Phillips, and Lloyd Sam. Those are four of the biggest names on the New York Red Bulls in 2015. McCarty is the MLS lifer who settled in with the Red Bulls after bouncing around a bit. Kljestan is the returning hero, coming back to the United States in 2015. Bradley Wright-Phillips was the underestimated striker who now has a bulls eye on his back after being one goal away from the MLS record in 2014. Sam was also a player who bounced around (not in the US) but has found a home in New York.

All four of these players were instrumental in the Shield run of 2015. Which one got your vote for team MVP?

2015 RBNY MVP

McCarty is one of the most popular players on the team, so the result of fan voting is not surprising. A 16% win over Kljestan is though. The midfield trio was a powerful force in 2015, so the fact that McCarty was head and shoulders above Kljestan shows how much of an impact he had on the field this year. He was the link between the defense and offense. He was one of the reasons the fullbacks were able to enjoy so much time in an advanced position on the wings. He was truly the captain of the team this year and was key in a second Supporters' Shield in three seasons.
