Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord have been teammates on both Sky Blue FC and the Perth Glory of Australia’s W-League but now they’re going up against each other.

Both were nominated for the 2015 award, which will be named this week.  Both were members of Australia’s national team that advanced into the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup last summer.

Kerr joined Sky Blue after the Matilda’s were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The forward scored six goals and had two assists in nine games to lead the Sky Blue in scoring.

Foord plays as a wing in Australia but was a solid member of Sky Blue’s backline, starting 10 matches in July, August and September.

Kerr is currently recuperating from a foot injury suffered in a match against Brisbane Roar in mi-November. She is expected to be healthy in late January to help Australia get ready for the Olympics.

Perth Glory fell to Sydney, 4-2, yesterday. Australian international Kyah Simon scored twice in a winning effort. Foord and Sky Blue midfielder Nikki Stanton played a full 90 minutes with the latter being shown a yellow early in the second half.

Adelaide United, with Sky Blue midfielder Sarah Killion starting her eighth straight match and playing a full 90 minutes, fell to Canberra United. The victors scored twice early and twice late with Michelle Heyman getting the brace.
