Former Red Bulls' defender Alfredo Pacheco was murdered at 3:30 a.m. on December 27th, in his native El Salvador according to the Salvadorian attorney general's office.
Pacheco was shot multiple times after stopping at a gas station with a group of friends. In addition to Pacheco's death, two people were hospitalized due to injuries. Police are still searching for the gunman. Pacheco was 33 years old and made a record 86 appearances for the Salvadorian national team.
Pacheco started his career with Salvadorean side C.D. FAS and spent nine years there before joining the Red Bulls on loan. Pacheco had a brief spell for the Red Bulls, making fourteen appearances during the 2009 MLS season.
The left-back struggled at times, but showed glimpses of skill during his loan spell. After leaving the Red Bulls, he featured for Aguila and Isidro Metapan, in El Salvador. Pacheco was a Salvadorian legend but was banned from soccer for life, in 2013, by the El Salvador FA as a result of his involvement in match fixing.
All of us here at Once A Metro are saddened by this tragic loss and we extend our deepest condolences to Pacheco's friends and family. Rest in Peace Alfredo Pacheco, you will be missed.
