The Long Island native is joining up for the 2015 season.

The New York Red Bulls announced the signing of striker Mike Grella.

"Mike has come into camp and earned this contract," said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. "He showed up and has worked hard since day one. His form has been great, but his attitude and work ethic have been even better."

Grella was a star during his youth and college days, before beginning his professional career at Leeds United in the English Championship. After his time with Leeds (which included loans to Carlisle United and Swindon Town), he bounced around with teams in England and Denmark. He had a short stay in 2014 with the Carolina RailHawks who play in the NASL.

Grella also trained with NYCFC and the Cosmos, but try not to hold this against him. Feel free to hold it against him that he went to Duke because Duke... yuck.

He had a swell beard and should bring it back.

The team desperately needed depth at the striker position behind Bradley Wright-Phillips and part-time striker/part-time midfielder Peguy Luyindula. Grella reportedly showed really well during training camp and scored some skilled goals.

Here are some Mike "Goals" Grella highlights.

Are you excited about the team signing Mike Grella? How many goals will he score this season? Should he re-grow his beard?
