The New York Red Bulls have announced a new addition to the technical staff: Chris Armas is joining the club as an assistant coach.
He was born and schooled in New York, and returned to the area to make his living after leaving Chicago. Armas had a long and successful career in MLS, mostly with Chicago Fire - experience with whom is increasingly looking like a prerequisite for a back room job with RBNY. (Jesse Marsch and Denis Hamlett are distinguished former Fire men; John Wolyniec played a couple of short stints in Chicago, at a time when Armas, Marsch and Hamlett were all part of the club.) Armas also had a distinguished run with the US Men's National Team (66 caps).
His coaching experience since retiring has included a season as an assistant to Hamlett in Chicago and a solid run as the head coach of the Adelphi University (his alma mater) women's team.
