Preseason: Red Bulls win second preseason scrimmage; Kljestan scores in first run-out as a Red Bull

A closed-door friendly recapped in Tweets courtesy of the hard-working New York Red Bulls' social media crew...

RBNY's second "game" of the preseason was one of two 30-minute halves on a soggy day in Florida against a Toronto FC team too preoccupied by the arrival of its latest superstar, Sebastian Giovinco, to pay much mind to anything so mundane as an early-February kickabout.

While the New York Red Bulls' stalwart social media team tweeted out RBNY's starting lineup, TFC's attention was fixed on the arrivals hall of Pearson International Airport:

TFC did eventually get round to tweeting out a lineup...

...and then team and social media account appeared to agree on ignoring what was happening on the pitch completely. As reported by RBNY's Twitter account, there wasn't much happening for TFC in this one.

Twenty-two minutes in, TFC did something:

Then RBNY did something better:

SACHA KLJESTAN SCORED A GOAL! Yes, it is preseason, but we have to take what we can get right now.

No changes at the half for RBNY - and much the same story for the second 30 minutes...

DAX MCCARTY SCORED A GOAL! Good times in Florida.

And that was about it.

What did we learn? Not a great deal. This was a run-out for two sets of payers neither quite amounting to a coherent team - and one group was arguably much more interested in what was happening at an airport in another country.

Points we gathered from the Twitter coverage and perhaps to look at more closely when get get the highlights: Sean Davis appeared to get most of the corners; Sacha Kljestan was given a chance from a direct free kick.

There will be other set-piece options before the season is out, but it is at least interesting that Jesse Marsch chose to let one of his youngest players have a run in what looked the stronger of the two lineups the Red Bulls fielded on the last full day of their Orlando camp. Equally interesting that trialists Marius Obekop and Mike Grella were given the chance to run out in support of lone striker Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Oh - and Luis Robles got the armband.

It's preseason. It wasn't really a proper match. We didn't see any of it. And the result doesn't count for anything at all.

But better to win than to lose, and good to have Sacha Kljestan off to a scoring start as he eases into life as a Red Bull.
