Red Bulls officially announce name of USL Pro team.

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

At long last the New York Red Bulls have announced the name of their reserve team: Red Bulls II/New York Red Bulls II/Red Bull New York II (however you care to style it).

The team will play its matches at Red Bull Arena for the first half of the USL Pro season and at a yet to be determined site during the second half.

According to NewYorkRedBulls.com, "the organization is in the final stages of naming a coach and securing a secondary location for matches in addition to Red Bull Arena. More details are expected to be announced later this week."

United Soccer Leagues and MLS formed an alliance in January 2013 in order to integrate the old MLS Reserve League with USL Pro in order to improve player development and build ties between the different divisions in the American soccer pyramid. MLS teams must either affiliate with a club in USL Pro or enter their own team.

The club and its owners has reportedly explored the creation of a USL team immediately following the announcement of the alliance, but appeared to have cancelled plans for a reserve team in September. However, by December reports began filtering in that ownership had reversed its decision and would create an affiliate team.

The team will provide playing time to players both on the senior roster and currently in the Academy, while also aiding in identification and providing a landing spot for potential Homegrown players who aren't ready for the senior team.

Do you like the name? What do you think the secondary location will be?
