The United States Women's National Team will face France in the final of the 2015 Algarve Cup today. Two Sky Blue defenders Christine Rampone and Kelley O'Hara are in the squad in Portugal.
These are two teams that are expected to make a deep run in the 2015 Women's World Cup this summer in Canada. France won all three matches in this group and had a goal differential of +6 to make the final easily.
The United States had a tougher time, scoring 0 goals all three first halves in Portugal. Eventually, the team beat Norway and Switzerland, before drawing 0-0 with Iceland. Sky Blue defender O'Hara started the 0-0 match against Iceland and came on as a substitute against Switzerland.
After said draw, Iceland manager Frey Alexandersson said it was easy to predict what tactics the United States would rely on if disrupted.
In response, USWNT manage Jill Ellis responded in a petty way that doesn't scream we're confident because we're the United States Women's National Team and we are very good:
"Maybe he’s unhappy because his team is at the bottom of the group,"
Yikes.
The United States has won 9 Algarve Cups, and is looking for their 10th win. Their last win came in 2013. USWNT fans still try to forget the seventh place finish last year.
