Nadia Nadim reports to Sky Blue FC camp

Goal-scoring sensations reports to team and is ready for Saturday's second pre-season match

Entering the second week of pre-season, Sky Blue FC's roster continues to be fluid with the first round of player cuts and transfers. But the big news today was the arrival of Danish international Nadia Nadim into camp.

Nadim lit up the scoreboard late last season, scoring seven goals with three assists in just six games, including a hat trick against the Houston Dash.  Her ability to score goals propelled Sky Blue FC to a five-game winning streak at the end of the year.

Nadim, who will be with Sky Blue FC all year, is expected to see action Saturday when the University of North Carolina comes to town. The team's second pre-season match will be played at Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, with a 3 p.m. kickoff.

The other big move involves defender Rachel Breton, who headed to Europe Sunday where she will join Amazon Grimstad FK in Norway. Breton will return to the Sky Blue in time to face the Seattle Reign on May 9 in New Jersey.

In making its first round of roster moves, the Sky Blue FC parted ways with goalkeepers Shannon O'Brien and Genevieve Richard, defender Kim Elmore, midfielder Sheree Dillard and strikers Shelbee Stillwell, Amber Stobbs and Shu Tseng.

That's a lot of movement as the Sky Blue looks to establish a rhythm and build off the 3-0 victory over St. John's Saturday.

"In the preseason, there are going to be some dings and some soreness but we have a lot of focus on this week," said Jim Gabarra, the Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach. "Looking at our preseason schedule, we have a normal week this week where we can work towards building and implementing our game plan for UNC. The following week, we have two games in one week, so there will not be as many training opportunities."

Tickets for Saturday's pre-season match are $10 but there is no charge for season ticket-holders.
