Bulls Abroad: Dane Richards gets Jamaica call-up

The once-a-Red Bull returns to the mother ship and earns a roster spot for upcoming March friendlies.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards has been announced as one of three confirmed players called up to the Jamaica National Team for their March 27th Friendly against Venezuela. The other two call ups are Vancouver Whitecaps' striker Darren Mattocks (6 goals, 20 caps) and Leyton Orient FC (English League One) midfielder Jobi McAnuff (12 caps).  The rest of the roster will be revealed in the next few days, which should include RBNY new defensive addition Kemar Lawrence (2 goals, 16 caps).

Richards was on trial with the Red Bulls during February camp and was signed on March 7th.  He was one of the 18 players who dressed for the game, but did not make an appearance in RB's season opener versus Sporting Kansas City.  In his previous stint with RB (2007-2012), he tallied 23 goals during his total 163 total appearances.

Richards has been a member of the Jamaica National Team since 2002.  During his tenure, he has registered 10 goals in 45 caps.  Richards has helped Jamaica capture the Caribbean Cup four times and took home the Golden Boot award in 2010.

The call up means that Richards will miss the Red Bulls' match on March 28th when they visit Columbus Crew SC.
