Sky Blue FC adds Jen Grubb to roster

Former USWNT defender gives New Jersey squad depth and experience with NWSL season on horizon

.Entering its second pre-season match, Sky Blue FC added some depth and solid experience to its backline by signing Jennifer Grub, a veteran who has experience on the United States Women's National Team and has been coaching high school soccer in Mercer County.

The move reunites Grubb with Sky Blue FC coach Jim Garbarra. Grubb played for Gabarra on the Washington Freedom from 2001-2003 in the defunct Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA). Together they went to the WUSA championship match in 2002 and 2003, winning the league title in 2003. Grubb, 36, was the only player who played every minute of every match in WUSA's three years of existence. She also played for the Sky Blue in 2010.

Grubb played for the University of Notre Dame where she was named All-American all four years - only one of five defenders in NCAA history to do so.  She was a finalist in the NCAA player of the year honors her final two years. She has coached Peddie High School in Hightstown for seven years. This past fall she was an assistant at Seton Hall University, joining the staff with former Sky Blue Coach Rick Stainton.

Grubb is set to be in uniform Saturday, when Sky Blue takes on perennial college power, the University of North Carolina, led by coach Anson Dorrance. The first kick is at 3 p.m. at Mercer County Community College. Tickets are $10.
