Under-20 USMNT head coach Tab Ramos named six other defensemen over Matt Miazga for the team's friendly against England on March 29th.
Miazga, who was one of the most consistent players during U-20 World Cup qualifying, will remain on the New York Red Bulls roster for the league match against the Columbus Crew SC. One can assume he will at the least be on the bench while at least two of his teammates (Kemar Lawrence and Karl Ouimette; Dane Richards has said he has declined Jamaica's call) are away playing for their countries next week - both being defenders.
Early season injury problems at the back created an opportunity for Miazga to win his first league start of the season against D.C. United. He conceded a late, but soft, penalty - which was missed. So Miazga can look back at a scoreline reflecting a creditable performance: 2-0; RBNY's first win and first clean sheet of MLS 2015.
There is another U-20 camp coming up in April, so Miazga has another shot for the next round of friendlies. The U-20 World Cup is set to kick off on May 30th in New Zealand. And there appears to be no need to think Miazga will be missing out on a shot at an age-group world title: he clarified the reason for his absence from the March U-20 camp after the game against DC.
Matt Miazga on U-20 #USMNT omission: "Club obligations."
