The Canada Men's National Team defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 in Bayamon on Monday night. New York Red Bulls defenseman Karl Ouimette subbed on for an injured Marcel de Jong (Sporting Kansas City) 30 minutes into the game. Ouimette helped Canada keep a clean sheet and earned 60 minutes in the 8th national team appearance of his career. Canada's scorers were Tosaint Ricketts (41'), Randy Edwini-Bonsu (60') and Orlando City's Cyle Larin (77').
Canada has now won back-to-back games for the first time since August-September 2012. As it happens, the last time they won 3-0 was also against Puerto Rico, in October of the same year. In the first three months of 2015, they have surpassed their win totals in all of 2013 and 2014 combined.
Canada's next step in the CONCACAF region will be a home-and-home series with Dominica on June 8th and 16th as they begin round two of qualification for the 2018 World Cup. Dominica defeated the British Virgin Islands 3-2 agg. a few days ago during round one. Canada is currently ranked 116th in the FIFA World Rankings.
