Rumor: New York Red Bulls to appear in International Champions Cup

Could the NJ based side be one of 3 MLS teams in the 10 team summer (friendly) tournament?

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Today, in a post & tweet by the San Jose Earthquakes that was quickly pulled down, fans got a glimpse of the possible entrants in the 2015 International Champions Cup. Thankfully, some people were quick to catch the news capture it.

Below is a snippet of the Earthquakes website before the post was put behind an "access denied" page. Thanks for this goes out to Patrick Guldan, the Managing Editor of The Massive Report.

The big news for New York Red Bulls fans is that the team looks to be one of the entrants. Other teams that seem to be involved include:

  • Manchester United (Defending 2014 Champions) - Barclay's Premiere League
  • FC Barcelona - La Liga
  • Paris Saint-Germain - Ligue 1
  • Chelsea - Barclay's Premiere League
  • FC Porto - Primeria Liga
  • Club America - Liga MX
  • ACF Fiorentina - Serie A
  • New York Red Bulls - Major League Soccer
  • LA Galaxy - Major League Soccer
  • San Jose earthquakes - Major League Soccer

The announcement of the participants is supposed to happen today, so it's very likely this is the final set of participants. If so, this could be the friendly that the Red Bulls cleared their schedule a few weeks ago.
