New York Red Bulls to play in International Champions Cup (What we know and what we don't)

The Red Bulls have made it to the big time! (Not really.)

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The field for the International Champions Cup was announced yesterday and the New York Red Bulls will be participating. This is the Red Bulls' first appearance in the friendly tournament.

The International Champions Cup has been held since 2013 and is operated by RSE Ventures (owned by Stephen Ross and Matt Higgins). In 2014, the tournament set the record for the largest attendance for a soccer match in American history when Manchester United played Real Madrid before a crowd  of 109,318 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

According to Empire of Soccerthe Red Bulls attempted to host a home match against Manchester United at Red Bull Arena, but were unable to secure one. However, multiple matches will be taking place in Harrison at the Cathedral of American soccer.

Will Manchester United be playing on the East Coast?

Where else will matches be played? We don't know yet.

When does the tournament take place? July 11th through August 5th.

What teams will be participating? Chelsea, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Fiorentina, Club America, Porto, Barcelona, LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, and, of course, the New York Red Bulls.

What else do we know? Barcelona is playing the Galaxy at the Rose Bowl.

Will the matches be televised? All 17 matches will be on Fox, Fox Sports 1, and Fox Sports 2.

Will STH make another killing like they did last year with Arsenal tickets? I hope so, but tickets aren't being handled by the Red Bulls this time. I guess we'll see.

When do we find out more information? Match dates, venues, and opponents will be announced on April 28th.

What is the official website for the International Champions Cup? InternationalChampionsCup.com

Do these matches count? This is a friendly tournament.
