The field for the International Champions Cup was announced yesterday and the New York Red Bulls will be participating. This is the Red Bulls' first appearance in the friendly tournament.
The International Champions Cup has been held since 2013 and is operated by RSE Ventures (owned by Stephen Ross and Matt Higgins). In 2014, the tournament set the record for the largest attendance for a soccer match in American history when Manchester United played Real Madrid before a crowd of 109,318 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
According to Empire of Soccer, the Red Bulls attempted to host a home match against Manchester United at Red Bull Arena, but were unable to secure one. However, multiple matches will be taking place in Harrison at the Cathedral of American soccer.
