RBNY Fantasy Recap Week 7: Felipe Martins, Sacha Kljestan, and Lloyd Sam

Two goals and a clean sheet make high scores all around

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on Friday night behind goals from Sacha Klejstan and Mike Grella. All of the starting XI scored over 6 points (except Dax McCarty, 5) because of the shutout and two goals. the win was a total team effort up and down the lineup.

Felipe Martins (MID, 12 points): Martins didn't score and didn't record an assist (in Fantasy; he is credited with a secondary assist on Sacha Kljestan's goal by the official game stats). However, he did tally a whopping 7 attacking points. Martins owned the midfield and helped start the scoring plays.

Sacha Kljestan (MID, 9 points): Kljestan finally got the monkey off his back and scored his first goal of the season. He looked poised all game and remained patient when San Jose started to turn up the pressure in the second half.

Lloyd Sam (MID, 9 points): Luckily for Sam, Fantasy MLS decided to start giving points for secondary assists this season. Even luckier, the initial Fantasy calculations awarded Felipe's secondary assist to Sam. So, until that is corrected, he is recorded with two assists during the game. Sam was dangerous throughout. Hopefully his injury isn't serious. He went down late in the second half holding his leg and was quickly subbed.

Honorable Mention:

8 points - Luis Robles, Matt Miazga, Kemar Lawrence

7 points - Bradley Wright-Phillips, Mike Grella, Chris Duvall

6 points - Damien Perrinelle

RBNY has over a week off and will take on the LA Galaxy on Sunday 4/26 as the second of a three-game home stand.
