Bulls Abroad: Matt Miazga starts in US U-20 tie with Qatar

If all goes to plan, Miazga's next start for the U-20s will be in New Zealand...

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Miazga started in the US U-20 Men's National Team's latest friendly, against Qatar in Austria. The match completed a possibly unique career achievement for Miazga: in January, he scrimmaged against RB Salzburg in Qatar; now he has played a friendly against Qatar on Brother Salzburg's home ground, Red Bull Arena (Papa doesn't like to think too hard when naming a stadium).

The game ended 2-2, with goals from the US book-ending the Qatari's efforts. Former Red Bull, Amando Moreno opened the scoring in the 22nd minute; Orlando City's Conor Donovan bagged the equalizer in the 84th.

The U-20s will conclude their European training camp with match against Croatia on April 25, but Miazga is expected to return to his club to prepare for the New York Red Bulls' MLS game against LA Galaxy on April 26. As such, he's put in his final shift for the U-20 squad before head coach Tab Ramos makes his decision regarding the roster for the U-20 World Cup.

The tournament starts on May 30, and Ramos has said he expects to have his full squad in camp for "seven to 10 days" before the competition. So Miazga doesn't have long to wait to find out whether he's got a flight to New Zealand in his future.
