Sky Blue Jonelle Filigno called up to official World Cup Squad

SBFC has another World Cup call-up to celebrate...

Sky Blue added to its expected list of World Cup attendees. Forward Jonelle Filigno was selected by Coach John Herdman to the Canadian 23 that will compete in this year's Woman's World Cup. Filigno, who has been training apart from the team for the first part of the season, is also an alumna of Rutgers.

Last year, Filigno provided forward depth for the team, starting 6 games and appearing off the bench 11 times, scoring once. The Rutgers product was allocated to the Sky Blue by the Canadian Soccer association after graduation. She joins Kelly O'Hara and Christie Rampone as official participants of the Women's World Cup this summer. Expected call-ups include Samantha Kerr, who was acquired in a trade with the Flash, and Caitlin Foord - both are currently training with the Australian national team. Also, Monica Ocampo is currently with the Mexican national team.

This weekend's match against the Chicago Red Star be the first time that Sky Blue has been without their USWNT players. The team's youth and depth will be tested without the presence of Rampone and O'Hara who have started all three of Sky Blue's games.

Once A Metro congratulates Filigno on her call-up and wishes her the best of luck at the World Cup (aside from any US implications).
