The International Champions Cup announced today the pairings for its annual summer friendly tournament, and it turns out Red Bull Arena will be receiving two of Europe's biggest names: England's Chelsea Football Club (Wednesday, July 22nd, 8 pm EST) and Portugal's Porto FC (Sunday, July 26th, 7:30 pm EST). Both will play the Red Bulls in Harrison during the MLS club's late July break from league matches.
The tournament offers a chance to catch the first-place English Premier League club and the second-place Primeira Liga club in-person at one of the premier soccer-specific stadiums in the United States.
Chelsea will certainly draw a large crowd due to their large American fan base, and Harrison, New Jersey's, cultural makeup make it a great place to host the 27-time winners of the Portuguese domestic league.
According to Dan Dickinson, information on Red Bulls season-ticket holders exclusive pre-sale access for these matchups will be provided at a later date.
The two Red Bulls matchups will be held on the same day as the Gold Cup semifinals and final, so American fans will not be left wanting for summer soccer action.
Also during the tournament, Chelsea will be playing Paris Saint-Germain in North Carolina (July 25th), Barcelona in Washington, D.C. (July 28th), and Fiorentina in London (August 5th). Porto will face PSG in Toronto (July 18th), Fiorentina in Hartford, Connecticut (July 24th), and Club America in Mexico City (July 28th).
