US Soccer released the initial Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup pairings. New York Red Bulls II enter the tournament in the second round and will play their first match on Wednesday, May 20th against the winner of Jersey Express (PDL) and New York Greek American Atlas (USASA).
If New York Greek American Atlas wins, the match will be held at Red Bull Arena. If Jersey Express wins, the Red Bulls will be forced to go on the road and travel all the way to Newark and play in the unfamiliar confines of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (former home field of the Red Bull U-23s).
The MLS Red Bulls enter the Open Cup in the fourth round. The Red Bulls U-23s, despite winning the NPSL Championship last year, will not be participating in the Open Cup because they moved to the PDL.
One question we hope will be answered:
If MLS Contract player loaned from @NewYorkRedBulls to @NYRBII for a @usopencup match -- can no longer play for parent club, right? #RBNY
