FC Porto finishes second in Portugal's Primeira Liga, still has 0 points in International Champions Cup

Second place in Portugal is worth nothing in the high-stakes word of ICC.

FC Porto conceded an 85th-minute equalizer to Belenenses in the penultimate round of Portugal's Primeira Liga, and thereby conceded the league title to Benfica.

It means, at least, that the Portuguese club can stop fussing over trivialities like its domestic championship and focus attention on something truly important: this summer's International Champions Cup.

Porto will play PSG on July 18, Fiorentina on July 24, and Club America on July 28. But its key match in ICC will be against the New York Red Bulls on July 26. The club might be the second-best in Portugal this year, and it boasts a strong squad (many of whom - such as scoring sensation Jackson Martinez - may not be with the team by the time July rolls around), but such details count for nothing in ICC.

Currently, RBNY tops the ICC table - and the competition offers no point for performances in the Portuguese top flight.

Congratulations on finishing second in your league, FC Porto. And we look forward to seeing you face the Red Bulls in July.
