New York Red Bulls U23s Alex Tejera named to PDL Team of the Week

Three Red Bulls earned honors.

The New York Red Bulls U23s started their inaugural season in the Premier Development League with an undefeated weekend. Originally, the club had 4 points after beating F.A. Euro, 3-1, and tying D.C. United, 1-1. However, the PDL awarded the U23s the full 6 points for the weekend after discovering that D.C. United had fielded an ineligible player.

The Red Bulls, now in first place in the Mid Atlantic Division, had three players honored by the PDL.

Alex Tejera (Siena/Red Bulls Academy), who scored 2 goals in the win over F.A. Euro, was named to the PDL Team of the Week. Tejera, a 6'2" striker, finished his freshman year in the MAAC with 6 goals and 3 assists. He was selected to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third Team, CollegeSoccerNews.com All-Freshman Team, MAAC All-Rookie Team, and MAAC Second Team. He was named the Siena Male Rookie of the Year.

Arun Basuljevic (Georgetown/Red Bulls Academy) and Sean Sheridan (Villanova/Red Bulls Academy) were awarded with Honorable Mention for the week.

The U23s play the Lehigh Valley United Sonic on Sunday, May 24th at the Red Bull Training Facility in Hanover, New Jersey.
