The US U-23 Men's National Team continues its preparations for CONCACAF qualifying for the 2016 Olympics with participation in the Toulon tournament, an annual get-together for national age-group teams. Traditionally a competition for U-20 teams (England recently named a U-20 squad for this year's edition), it represents an important milestone in head coach Andi Herzog's efforts to identify the roster that will seek to qualify the US for the Olympics - CONCACAF qualifying takes place in October,

Herzog has revealed 19 players who will make the trip to Toulon, with one more to be named later. The tournament requires 20-man rosters be submitted by Tuesday, May 26.

But the identity of that 20th player need not trouble fans of the New York Red Bulls, because the only RBNY player who has been regularly making Herzog's U-23 squads recently is safely on the list already: NYRB II's Dan Metzger is among the 19.

He is listed as "unattached" in the official release from US Soccer, which we will assume to be a typographical error and not an unexpected announcement of Metzger's sudden departure from the RBNY system. UPDATE: The Red Bulls have confirmed that Metzger is indeed very much under contract - and US Soccer has amended its error. Dan Metzger is duly listed as attached to the New York Red Bulls II.

Metzger and the U-23s kick off their tournament against France on May 27. Their second group stage game is against the Netherlands on May 29; they round out the opening phase of matches against Qatar on June 2. First and second in each group progress to a final round of games (the final and third-place playoff) on June 7.
