The U20 USMNT started their World Cup journey on the right foot as they defeated a stingy Myanmar team 2-1. Myanmar opened the scoring in the 9th minute, but the US locked it down and controlled the rest of the game. The U20s were able to even the score in the 17th minute with a tally from Maki Madani Tall. Then they took the lead for good with a 56th minute goal from Emerson Hyndman.
New York Red Bulls defenseman, Matt Miazga, played all 90 minutes alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers. The two central defensemen towered over the Myanmar strikers. This was beneficial on corners, crosses and set pieces, but they were both called for numerous fouls as they overpowered their opponents.
The U20 Americans hope to continue their winning ways when they take World Cup hosts, New Zealand on June 2. The game will be on Fox Sports 1 if you are awake at 3:00am. New Zealand and Ukraine drew in their opening game, so the US currently sits in first place for Group A.
