RBNY MLS Fantasy Scouting Report: NYCFC

Let's get this rivalry started!

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The time for this long-awaited game has arrived.  The New York Red Bulls will host their Hudson River foes at Red Bull Arena this Sunday.  It will conclude a week featuring 12 MLS games.  NYCFC has struggled as of late, but let's look at their top MLS Fantasy performers in their inaugural season to date:

Josh Saunders (GK, 37 points; 720 MP, 2 clean sheets): Saunders has made 25 saves in the eight games he has played in goal this season.  Recently, his defense hasn't been making it easy for him.  In his last five appearances, he has allowed eight goals.  RBNY may be able to get to him to keep him a bit skittish.  Jason Kreis will be unable to play Ryan Meara, as he is on loan from RBNY.

Chris Wingert (DEF, 37 points; 810 MP, 78 CBAI): Wingert has played every minute for NYCFC during the first quarter of their season.  His defense has allowed nine goals their past six games, so they'll need to work hard in order to keep RBNY off the board on Sunday.  Other contributing defensemen are Jeb Brovsky (30) and Jason Hernandez (29); Kwame Watson-Siriboe (15) and Josh Williams (14) have been splitting time.

Mix Diskerud (MID, 32 points; 621 MP, 1 goal): Mix scored NYCFC's first ever goal in a competitive game (keep that in your back pocket for MLS trivia).  Unfortunately, he has largely under-performed since, earning three-to-five points in all of his other games this season.  He is going to have to pick up the pace in order to slow down RBNY's three-headed monster in central midfield.  RBNY will need to watch out for former player Mehdi Ballouchy (24) who has scored two goals in his previous four games.

David Villa (FWD, 26 points; 442 MP, 2 goals, 1 assist): Villa has been plagued by a hip injury in the last few weeks, only appearing in three of their previous six games.  Two of the times he has grabbed 90 minutes, he scored a goal, so he is still potent.  If he is feeling at least 80%, Perrinelle and Miazga may have a bit of trouble with him.

Be sure to tune in for the game on Sunday May 10th at 7pm on Fox Sports 1.  If you live local, make your way to RBA.  The atmosphere will be electric.
