Sal Zizzo out 2-3 months

The left midfield platoon member will be out for a while.

Jesse Marsch has been platooning the left side of the midfield all year, swapping between Sal Zizzo and Mike Grella based on the matchup. Now, Marsch will have to adjust his game plan given some bad news today for the New York Red Bulls.

Zizzo was brought on in December in a trade/loan that sent Ryan Meara to New York City FC on loan for the year. Zizzo did not get the opening day start but did take on a starting role in the home opener against D.C. United. In total Zizzo has appeared in 7 matches, starting 3, racking up 294 minutes played.

Mike Grella will most likely become the regular starter on the left as there is no natural left sided midfielders on the roster after Zizzo. Fan favorite Dane Richards might make appearances there are, but he is naturally suited for the right side and is Lloyd Sam's backup.

MLS' first transfer/trade window closes on May 12th with the second opening on July 8th. Given the two month span between windows, we can probably expect the Red Bulls to look to make a move in the next week for the left side.
