RBNY MLS Fantasy Recap Week 13: Sam, McCarty & BWP

A tale of two halves dooms RBNY against Seattle

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls couldn't hold onto their first half lead, conceding goals in the 69th and 91st minutes, to lose 2-1 at the hands of the Seattle Sounders.  The Red Bulls started the game very well: holding possession, pressuring the Sounders back line and fighting to get their first goal.  The Sounders turned the tables midway through the second half and the Red Bulls couldn't recover.  Here are the team's top performers:

Lloyd Sam (MID, 6 points): Sam performed very well in the first half, but was unable to duplicate that effort in the second.  From a deflected BWP free kick, Sam put himself in the right place to touch a header past Stefan Frei.  He seemed to be out of position the most during Seattle counter attacks.

Dax McCarty (MID, 4 points): McCarty didn't have any spectacular plays on the night, but he did a pretty good job a stopping the Seattle attack during the first half.  He earned two defensive bonus points for his efforts.

Bradley Wright-Phillips (FWD, 3 points): BWP could have put RBNY ahead in the second half, but seemingly was fouled in the box by Brad Evans while shooting.  His deflected shot off of a free kick found the head of Sam to put the Red Bulls ahead in the 36th minute.  He had a tough time finding seams behind the Sounders back line.

The Red Bulls have another nationally televised game on Friday night in Houston at 9pm EDT.  Hopefully they can make adjustments and get back on track.
