Big Apple Soccer's scoop machine, Kristian Dyer, has given us a rare sighting of a genuine New York Red Bulls transfer target. Not a rumor from some far-flung foreign newspaper but an actual, (reportedly) on-trial, in-the-flesh candidate for a RBNY contract: Jamaica's Devon "Speedy" Williams.
Williams was part of the same Jamaica U-20 cohort as current Red Bull Kemar Lawrence, so he will be well known to at least one member of the club. He also played alongside NCAA scoring sensation Neco Brett both at Robert Morris University and in the Jamaican U-20 program.
Per Dyer's report, Williams has been with RBNY for "a couple of weeks", including time spent with NYRB II. No word on whether he is auditioning for a MLS or USL contract - though currently there is only one space open on RBNY's MLS roster. He is a midfielder whose highlight reel suggests he may be most comfortable in a central attacking role:
